THE NURSERY UNIT
The annexe to the community centre, which historically we refer to as the Nursery Unit, is mainly used by The Shore Pre-school, but is available for hire outside of their hours for other activities. Currently, WCA hold a keep-fit class there on Tuesday evenings.
The building was erected in the 1960s as an annexe to the then Woolston Infants School and bears all the hallmarks of a building of that period e.g. No insulation, single glazing and dodgy plumbing!
The building was nearing the end of its useful life in the early 2000s, but was refurbished under the Surestart programme in 2007. WCA had no involvement in the work, but on the plus side there was no charge! Within a few years, Surestart had vacated the premises and we have had two different pre-school organisations hiring the space ever since, the current one having taken over in 2023.
A building of this age demands a great deal of maintenance to meet our user's needs and environmental standards. We have been carrying out repairs and improvements over the years, far too numerous to mention here, but we feel that the 60 year old building is in good shape for the immediate future.
Our most recent improvements are shown in the pictures below..
New children's activity area sink unit New sinks and pipe casing in Children's toilet
